You feel it before you see it clearly — the pull of something ancient, something that knows you. The light at the center breathes like a living thing, and the figures surrounding it could be anyone you've lost, anyone you've loved, anyone still waiting. They climb toward something or flee from it; the painting refuses to tell you which. Perhaps it doesn't matter. The violet haze suggests dusk or dawn, that liminal hour when the membrane between worlds thins and memory becomes more real than presence. You recognize the postures — supplication, exhaustion, hope. These are not abstract forms but the accumulated weight of human longing rendered visible. The warm rust edges feel like old blood, like the walls of a cathedral after centuries of candlelight and whispered prayers. Somewhere in this mass of souls, there is one who turns slightly, as if they've just heard your voice. You want to call out. You want to enter.
